Another shot from my lunchtime experiment at Lake Elmo Park Reserve that produced this image. When I set out to take pictures that day, and most everyday for that matter, I try to limit the amount of homes and nearby neighborhoods that enter the frame, but even though the sky is the star of the image, having that little strip of Lake Elmo in the background (the water tower rocks) gives this image a little something extra. Maybe it’s the small town feel or just a contrasting element for the sky, but it just works for me, at least today!
The Dramatic Light preset in onOne Software’s Perfect B&W has become a favorite of mine. It typically goes a little over the top, but it’s easy to adjust once applied and the soft, high contrast feel seems perfectly suited for winter time black and whites.
