To look at this lake and surrounding area from this vantage point, it's hard to believe it used to be an active pit used for mining clay. The clay companies do a really good job of repurposing the pits by planting trees and grass, as well as filling the pit in with water. There must be another part of the area of this property that's active or in use by the mining company because they keep the gates locked and warning signs all over it. Although, they might do that for liability purposes. Either way, local folks ride bikes and ATVs down to it to swim in the summer and no one seems to mind. As far as I know.
