Splitting the Yosemite Valley into two halves, north and south, is the Merced River. It's not a large river and resembles more of a creek at times, but it's always there between all of the granite cliffs and waterfalls that tower above the valley.
If the Merced were not present, it would be quite easy to walk from one side of the valley to the other as it is very narrow. With that said, the river holds a beauty all of its own and accents the towering landscapes around it. if it were possible, I could spend at least a weekend, if not more, simply walking the sides of the river while taking in the incredible beauty of the valley. It makes for both a great centerpiece and/or connecting element. In this case, it's the centerpiece!
